Pull the drums. You will see a hole in between two of the lugs on the axle. That is an access hole to take the 4 bolts out holding the axles in.
Remove both axles. Remove the drive shaft. Then unbolt the center section from the axle housing and take out the 3rd member.
After that you will need other tools to set up the gears and just watch a video on Youtube. Honestly as plentiful as ford 9" rears are you can probably find a used 3rd member or buy a whole entire axle with 4.10 gears and just swap that third member out or swap in the entire axle assembly.
I forgot about the front D44.
You need to take the entire spindle off to remove the axles. You need a special socket to remove the hubs. Then there is a few bolts holding the spindle on. After the spindle is off you can slide out the axles.
Again you will need gear setup tools and watch videos on youtube for the D44 axle.
Again it would probably be cheaper to find used axles with the correct gears and just swap the entire axle assemblies in and just put your brakes and axles in if the U-joints look questionable.
New axles as in getting the correctly geared used axles you need from the same era truck? Craigslist is usually filled with people parting out old trucks and I would think you could find an axle set within 2-3 hour drive for $300-400.
You aren't going to find "brand new" store bought axles to bolt in.
