Have not been around here in a while and thought I would stop by. Much to my dismay Shell is no longer a bargin oil and I have switched to Wal Mart Super Tech 10w-30. I will be doing a oil test in a few days and will post the results.
Ironically I'm running Super Tech oil right now, lol... but that's because we just worked on my truck and it's a cheap oil to use while we test the engine on how well the fix was. I'm running 20W50 to be exact. This weekend we're changing it to Castrol GTX 20W50 though. The Super Tech has been running pretty good for me, pretty clean looking oil. I think it's a pretty good oil for a bargain so far. What all are you doing to test the oil anyway?
STAB !!! I wondered if you were still around. I confess, I too have used the WallyWorld oil.
It caused all the seals to shrink up and leak really bad. I had to use a screwdriver at oil change time, shoved up in the drain hole to loosen the oil up so it would ooze out. The oil offered such poor protection that the pistons wore down to less than half their original diameter. One finally got caught sideways in the cylinder and locked the motor up. I was able to get the piston situated back as it should be and filled 'er up with Mobil1. The seals have resealed and the pistons have grown back to their original size. It runs like new now!
Stay away from that WalMart stuff. Fill 'er up with MOBIL1 !!!
Well Stab, I see you ain't losted anymore. For what it's worth, the last spec I had on Wallys oil, it was distributed by Warren Distr. and had pretty decent numbers. But I'm sure Wally changes often to the cheapest bidder. Their "synthetic" is recycled oil that has gone thru the ol' ISO/SYN process and is also above average. As I remember the company that does it for Wally is Safety-kleen.
So, BrianA, hasn't anybody told you before to just say NO ?
wally world actually got api-SL and ch-4 or some thing on their deisel oil I thought that was a bit odd, I don't trust walmart enough to ever try it out in one of my motors. Everthing I buy from walmart breaks or gets broken cause it stopped working.
I just purchased some 15w40 supertech today. I have been using Delo but want to save some pennies(about 50 cents a quart) The stuff smells just like Chevron Delo. I also bought a supertech filter. A whole oil change for about $9.50. My Engine has 204,000 miles and probably has another 50,000 left on it
Wally World Oil here I come!, The truck is warming up waiting for the change.I also am currently running supertech 20w50 in my 1984 honda fourtrax. I change the oil every 5 hours of use.
I put diesel rated oil in my 360, and it grew injectors and the heads closed up, raising the compression ratio. Now it runs diesel. Imagine that. But I did put some M1 in and it revs up to 10,000 now.
Anyway yeah, I'd be interested to see the super tech oil analysis.
Edit: I do use diesel rated oil in my 360, I do really believe it works better than standard SL.
