Explain this truck?

I copied this pic from FTE a few years ago, then forgot about it.
I am curious about the grille.....is this a factory Merc piece or custom? Looks kinda like a '54 Ford unit?
I really like the looks of it...

Looks like a modified 54 F100 grille. Nice workmanship.

I agree, I think its a modified 54.

What is the spacing center to center on the head lights on a 51-52? I can measure a 53 or a 55 to compare if you need.

If by old chrome you mean original chrome I believe that the only truck of the 48-56 era with an original chrome grille was the 56 as a custom cab option, AFAIK. I like the workmanship and I think it looks really cool but I can't help but see buck teeth with only the two holes in the grille

The 51 -52 is 48" center to center on the headlights.

Yes, it is modified / narrowed. The stock '54 grille has 3 holes across the middle. And yes 1956 was the chrome grille - all other deluxe / custom just had chrome or stainless ornamentation. 1953 - chrome teeth, 1954 - harsh marks, 1955 - gullwings.
