With big. old unrestored trucks, I doubt very many were stolen. Usually they just got abandoned behind a farm, owners moved, people died over the years. Titles tossed out by new generations. Most people wouldn't want one even if it was given to them. But some of us lay awake at night while we are in the process of obtaining another one with the excitement of a kid on Christmas Eve. Come to think of it, my derelict '47 2 ton was delivered from N. Dakota on Dec 22 of last year......... Today it's the pride of my fleet! Hang in there, a title is in your future. It will happen.
It takes many years and many sour deals but here's the reality, when you make a deal, everything you are going to get is right there when the money changes hands. Never believe a title is forthcoming or that other door or cool set of valve covers, nothing, you got EVERYTHING you will get when he they got the money.
Unfortunately I am a person of my word, when I say I'm going to do something I do it. This world of a persons word not worth anything is a tough pill to swallow. Just don't buy anything from Kevin littill from Missoula montanna. A1 storage and restoration. Lesson learned.
You still respect the 'code of the west'. It has been eroding slowly, but I've run my business that way for over 30 years and have never had a non-payer or a bad check. Keep the faith, though others may not.
My grandfather explained the worth of someone's word to me as a very young child. Now people's word seems to be just what ever sounds good. I run my hard scape company with my word being the gospel and we stay very busy because of this reputation and quality work.
That is all good and well but business is still business and you don't hand someone the money unless they have a clean title in their own name to hand you. Too many things can go wrong and things even an honest person can't foresee.
One time when California seems to be the easiest state. Here we if you buy a vehicle with no title all we need to do is get a "statement of facts" from the seller, then have it inspected by Highway Patrol, get weight certificate, if it's a truck and then bam, title and plates are issued. I've done it several times, very easy.
Im in this situation now 46fordtruck, I called CHP yesterday for an appointment to have them come over to my house to verify the ID. Left number for him to call back as he is on Thanksgiving Vacation. Hope its as easy as you say.
There is a process here in Ohio to get our title. Ohio is the most strict state in the union for titling. At least that's what the judge said. I believe what comes around goes around. Kevin will have other issues to deal with
