Hey folks!

My wife and I bought a 2000 PSD LTD last night with 82k miles, to replace our 1976 E-250 tow rig. Boy are we excited!

Anyways, I have a few questions...

Should I buy the Diablo programmable chip for towing a 24', 9000 lbs enclosed race car trailer over the western mountain passes. I live near SF, and tow up and down the coast from LA to Canada, and as far east as Ohio, or should I get something like a Banks turbo-back system?

Do you recommend a rear anti-sway bar for towing?

Has anyone tried a roof air deflector for towing?

Any other suggestions?

TIA! Stan

Why? Does it not work okay stock?

I vote for a chip, downpipe and gauges.

I recommend it period.

I haven't, sorry...

Any other suggestions?

Did I happen to mention gauges?

I presume the exhaust works fine, for a stock exhaust... (The X is being shipped from Dallas, and I haven't actually driven it yet.) I may be new to the X, but not to towing nor to turbo diesels (I have two others). My experience has been that a free flowing exhaust makes more power, puts less strain on the engine and is more fuel efficient, albeit at the cost of some additional sound. OTOH, Ford puts an exhaust on the X designed to meet the expectations of the "typical" buyer - i.e., a 60-year old who expects dead silence...

As I am more interested in optimal towing performance, I am willing to forgo some refinements in the interests of better performance. On the Banks website there is an intersting comparison of an F-350 PSD towing a 20,000 GCVW test load. On a 7% slope it could maintain 52 mph max in stock configuration vs 72 mph with Banks' turbo-back exhaust system. AND it got 14% better fuel mileage, as well.

I recommend it period.
[Edit: rear anti-roll bar.]
Again, there is nothing "wrong" with the stock setup. But again, it is designed with goals other than max towing effort in mind. I'll be looking for one of these. Any recommendations?

Did I happen to mention gauges?
Yep, but didn't specify further...
Boost, EGT, and trans temp?

Thanks! Stan
