I ordered a 2003 350 super duty two months ago. When I picked it up, it had bucket seats instead of a bench seat. Now I'm in a real bind as I need to be able to seat 3. The dealership says they can't switch seats out due to liability issues. A new bench seat ordered through the parts department would cost me $1,800 and come in 40 pieces.
Does anyone know if it is possible to retrofit a center seat between two buckets? Would the center section of a 40/20/40 seat work? The fold down arm rests would be in the way for this setup so they would have to be removed.
I have tried to locate a bench seat locally to no avail. Any help is appreciated. Both my kids will appreciate it also!
Why did you take delivery of the vehicle if it wasn't built the way that you ordered it? You should have told them to shove it, and get you the correct setup that you ORDERED!!!! Just my .02 here though.....
Uh, excuse me Mr. sales manager, this is not what I ordered. I would appreciate getting the exact specs on the $30K I am fixing to spend here. How much cheaper is truck #2 going to be since I have to wait another 6 weeks?
About the seat-- If you can find the center section at the junk yard would be the easy way. Remember to get the seat belts and brackets/hardware for the floorboard. I'm not sure if the spacing is the same on the captains chairs.
A guy I knew bought a 96 F-250 used, and wanted a center seat between his captain's chairs. He managed to find a guy in Phoenix who offered to make him one custom for $400. If you get in a bind, you can find a solution to this problem by just throwing enough money at it.
IMHO the liability excuse is crap. I know of many instances (my wife's Jeep for one) where a dealer has swapped this power seat for that unpowered seat, or leather or whatever. I'd walk around the lot, find a truck with the seats you ordered and insist they swap them over. It's a hassle for them, but it is what you ordered.
I have an F350 Lariat with the grey bench. That was all I could locate on the lot. I really wanted the captains seats. Willing to trade if you are close. My truck is only 1 month old.
I live in the Chicago area. The interior color is tan. I'm willing to trade for same color bench if anyone lives close enough to do the exchange in a day.
If my situation was simple, I would have walked away from buying the truck. However, I was caught and either way, it would have cost me money. I decided to take it, they knocked $450 off the price, and now I have to figure out how to get what I wanted in the first place.
