Oil filter angle adapter

Hello Folks....new here and thanks for accepting me....I have a 1986 F-250 with a 7.5 liter which has a oil filter angle adapter...my question is...the bolt that goes through the adapter and mounts to the engine, is there some type of flat washer that goes on that bolt or is it just metal to metal?

I just bought the truck and had a oil leak becuase the adapter was loose...took it off and replaced the "O" ring but could see nothing on the head of the bolt?? No auto parts seem to show anything for this... HELP! and thanks!

Steve

My exploded view of the 460 engine does show a washer under that bolt head. The bolt already has a large flat head on it, so that makes me suspicious that the washer may even be a copper sealing washer. But I am not sure about that, maybe some else knows.

Thanks dave....as I said when I took it apart there was nothing there...it had been bouncing around for a while...I will check with NAPA, if they dont show it...they may have an assortment to choose from.

It's a black (dark grey?) fiber washer that likes to get brittle and come out.
I wish the bolt had a groove for an O-ring instead.

Much easier to tighten if you remove the front wheel and use a 1/2" drive with an extension.

Fel-Pro, $2.50 for a pack of five.
Six years later if I could find the sleeve I'd send one to you free.

The parts store may have a copper washer that would work. Or just take a cereal box and make your own. I have made lots of gaskets from cereal boxes. How about a oil pan plastic washer for the drain plug?

Mine has a chunk of cigarette package holding the oil in and has for 4 years after the washer failed on the trail. Some day I will replace it... Lol

Thanks Bill! But after choking down the 15.00 price I went over to a local Western Star truck dealer here and took the bolt in with me and walked out with a washer for $.79 cents. I did use a little high temp red RTV around it just as a added measure...drove it yesterday and no leaks...

This is all good info for me! I have a F250 4X4 with a 460. I just discovered an oil leak from the oil filter adapter. From what I can see there is a 3/4 bolt on the adapter that looks like it goes into the engine, is that all that holds the adapter on? it also looks like the leak is coming from between the adapter and the engine. If so what kind of gasket do I need. From reading the above post I'm not sure if I should use a cigarette package or cereal box??? Anyway I'll see if I can pull the adapter off. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks.

If I'm reading the old posts correctly, the OP replaced the O-ring between the adapter and the block to take care of *that* leak; I would imagine that's rubber.

NAPA sells an assortment of O-rings & gaskets for oil coolers and adapters, Belkin 601-1363

https://www.napaonline.com/napa/en/p...363/NDP6011363

If I'm envisioning the correct thing....

The gasket between engine block and the adapter was an O-ring seal.
At some point Ford changed it to square section (like an oil filter gasket)

The banjo bolt washer shouldn't be too hard to find (for under $15)
Even a 19mm drain plug washer from the HELP!/Needa rack should be fine.
