2001 F-150, skid plates
I have a 5" lift, 315/75R/16 tires and think that I will stay with them after consideration. I want to shore the truck up for offroading as a hunting fishing vehicle, along with maintaining the road usage as well. I do not intend on long trips or anything but you get the idea.
I figure the lift is plenty and the tire height is good, I think I want to add skip plates but have been having some issues finding them. I am NOT in any way flush with cash. I have to shop for value buys.
This is my first 4x4, though i am 48 years old so it's all new to me in some ways.
I am buying this:
I already have a couple of additional lights and I not that it says it has "skid bars", I am uncertain as to what they are protecting.
These are the only skid plates I have found for my model:
Superlift® 9606 - Ford F-150 2001-2003 Skid Plate
Next month I will buy a winch and mount and call it good, unless there is something else you guys might recommend.
This is my truck. I bought it $3K, it has K&N cold air intake, Optima battery, glass packs, etc. I am really happy with it. It ain't much but it's mine. . . and to me, it stands tall.
It is minus the valance and I do not think I'll put it back on as it will probably just get waxed again. . .
8K WARN winch and a big *** steel front bumper. It's an old Kentucky Dept. of Fish and Game vehicle (Game Wardens). It has the 5.8 L (351 W) engine. Bronco is white, tailgate is red.
Something weird with the acceleration:
"I am still trying to figure out the hesitation. You pull out of wherever and push down the gas peddle, it begins and then immediately bogs, you keep pushing and it's like it catches up and surges, then bogs, then it picks up again, bogs and then it steadily gains speed all the up to wherever and rolls along fine as frog's hair. I continually accelerated to 67 today but let off because of rain. It acted as if it would steadily continue on though. Turned around, same thing but this time i kept it around 60 and it had no issues. So it is at takeoff, only."
My son buried it in the yard. I dropped it in 4L, locked in the hubs and tore the hell out of the yard. (The wife needed something to bitch about.)
