First off, hello, new member here who is experiencing a melt down with one of my trucks. Hoping someone can help. One of our trucks is an 06 F250 SD with 80k on a 5.4L and the other day the tow/haul light started to flash. I took it to a buddy's repair shop (who is an experienced Ford tech and tranny guy) any way, it shifted fine until about the last 1/2 mile before I got to his shop, then it started shifting in and out of different gears. He found solenoid "A" pressure solenoid failure and one other solenoid failure, he replaced all 7 solenoids and also found the pigtail from the transmission to the wire harness bad as well and replaced that. I pick it up and get about a mile down the road and the light starts to flash again so I took it back, he ran his scanner and now found something with the coast clutch and through all his testing it told him the coast clutch needs replaced. He removed the trans. and tore it all down and found nothing wrong with anything, in fact he said everything looked in great shape and thinks the pcm failed. Any thoughts...PLEASE

When you say the pigtail was bad, how bad? Was the wiring damaged to the point where the individual wire insulation was broken, perhaps allowing wires to short circuit? Given all the codes, by your description it sure sounds like something electrically-related like more wiring problems or poor ground connection.

Hi Kelly, the pigtail wasn't burnt at all, something inside the plastic box was loose. Here's an update...he put the new/used pcm in test drove it for about 10-15 miles and no lights at all and everything shifted fine. I get in and drive it around the block and it starts blinking again! I brought it back to him, he ran his scanner and found the same P0751 code (solenoid A). He cleared it and ran it without tow/haul mode on and it hasn't skipped a beat since so I drove it home without tow/haul mode on and everything seems fine. Funny thing is a few weeks ago my brake light came on and dash illumination lights and radio went out then came back on in about 30 seconds, it's done this a few times now. Wondering if its related or not.
Update...After the mechanic removed and tore down the whole tranny and found nothing wrong he put in the new/used pcm and it ran perfect for him for about 10-15 miles with the tow/haul engaged and tow/haul off. I get in and take it around the block and tow/haul light starts flashing again. He again scanned it found P0751 (solenoid A), he cleared it, drove it without tow/haul mode engaged and it did fine (no lights came on), he engaed tow/haul and it starts flashing again. The transmission has always shifted fine after he replaced the solenoids but with tow/haul on we keep getting P0751 code, any thoughts?
Don't know what you have but I have kind of the same problem. No tow pack, when cold it shifts fine. Warmed up to operating temp from a dead stop it likes like it is slipping or jumping in and out of gear.
Can drop it in low, take off then manually shift into drive, does fine shifting into higher gears.

Doesnt sound like the same issue, I just wonder why my tow/haul light keeps going off even after replacing solenoids, pcm and wiring pigtail.
Update and opinions needed. The mechanic has been doing research and stumbled on something. He found a Ford TSB for 09-11 super duty torqshift transmission. The TSB stated basically the coast clutch drum have a tendency to develop hairline cracks causing solenoid A failure symptoms and come to find out its the same part number as my 06. Any thoughts?
Just as another option or view...IMO if you fail to find the problem after the latest round of trouble shooting Id consider tossing in a remaned warrantied trans and be done with it. The new trans should have all the current updates in it and should have been dyno tested as well.
The only time deep trouble shooting makes sense today is if you have the time, skills, tools, facility and tenacity to find the trouble your self. With shop rates fast approaching $100+/hr you could have a reman installed already?
Unless all the work is covered under warranty which is a whole nuther large can of you know what.
I pay for a reman and install it myself to not have to deal with EITHER situation.
