Looking at an Excursion for towing
A CPS is on my list too. I thought they were a lot more than $29. Do you need a special wrench to replace?
Never heard of the under valve cover harness fix. Another thing to add to the "research" list.
I think cheap cps's can be had for as little as $24 which really is better than nothing when you need one.
a 10mm socket on a short extension is whats needed. I have never needed it for the X yet but I carry a small tool case with me and have a socket set on hand for who knows what.

I'm glad you did not fall prey to the gas/diesel arguments. Like me, you bought the diesel because that is what you wanted!
Again congrats on a nice looking low mileage 7.3!
BTW: now that you have a PSD, ignore that psd clown in Georgia! If you can't find your answer here, you don't have a problem.
This week i bought a 2003 F250 SD with a V10. I wanted a gas engine. I see everyone talking about the V10 here and the 7.3, bashing the 6.0. I stayed away from buying another Diesel because I hate warming my Excursion up for 15 minutes to drive it 2 minutes to the hospital. I cannot leave my town since I'm on call all the time so i just do round about driving, short distances. We moved here 4 months ago. So i decided to get a V10 for my needs. I'm building a house so I need to haul stuff also, pulling my trailer all the time with the Ex gets old. I chose the V10 for its stoutness and because it is gas. I never tow anything other than my 26' car hauler with my 69 Fastback
I guess i'm a Ford guy through and through.I do not care much about the gas mileage because i never go more than a few miles at a time. I just wanted to say hello and i will probably be selling my Ex soon, if i do, i will give you folks first shot.
Cheers
Mark
My 05 6.0 ran very good. I have no complaints about the engine and i experienced no failures that have been plaguing the 6.0. However, I bought it with 17K miles on it and drove it for 100K miles, then sold it to a fellow up in Alaska. She never let me down. I will say, i got better mileage and power from my 7.3's. I do not have a log or empirical evidence to show you, just my word.
As i said, my 6.0 ran great, never let me down. No mods, no EGR delete or anything but i only had it to just over 110K miles. My 7.3 Ex now has 217K miles, she starts and runs great every day, never misses.
I think you are fine with either engine but you must do the mods to the 6.0 or you will get stuck since they all have over 100K miles nowadays. From my research, once the mods are done, the 6.0 is a great engine. The engineers meant well with their changes to the 6.0 but they were not well thought out in the rush to meet new EPA standards.
Good luck and god speed on your adventures.
Mark
