Kick panel drain holes?

So I did some cleaning on the inside of my truck last night, and I got an answer to my previous question about there being a way to clean out the kick panel areas.

Now what i'm wondering, can I just pour some water in there and hope it cleans it all out?

Here is the kick panel area i'm talking about.

Closer in.

Inside the hole.

It looks like there's a hole below, but I can't tell for sure. Can I just pour some water in there and hope it all drains out perfectly?

It wont. Stick a shop vac hose down there and suck that stuff out. You might get lucky and get some dirt out with water but might just make a muddy mess too.

Pull out what you can. There is a hole with a rubber "nipple" that allows water out but still holds dirt. It also "helps" hold off the vermin

If you put some screening under your cowl it will help keep most of the leaves and pine needles out

Some people install the cowl panels from a later truck with the small holes. It helps keep the larger stuff out from the plenum area.

Are those held in with anything? Looks like screws or bolts.

So technically, I could pour water in there, and it will drain out just fine?

Those things are gonna be clogged with debris; sure, water would likely eventually migrate through, but it's not going to cure anything.

I don't know if i'm looking to necessarily "cure" anything, I just want to get any organic debris out of there before it starts to rust everything.

When I cleaned out my driver's side, there was a bunch of dirt, leaves, pine needles, and silt in there. All of it was moist, and I know that if I didn't take care of it now, it would eventually end up rusting from the inside out.

Is the only way to access those "nipples" by removing the fender, or can I get to it from under the truck?

I would *assume* you can get to them from under the truck but, then again, I have only seen them with the fenders off.

Might be able to remove a plastic kick panels and stick your hand down into there....

That's what I have done. The picture inside the hole is as good as I can get it with a vacuum and my hand ^^^.

I'll have to see about taking the wheel well loose and getting under there to take a peak. I would think that if the place was made to let in air, but also be able to let debris fall out of it, it SHOULD let water flow through it to clean it out.

That's at least what i'm hoping.

I cleaned mine out 2 years ago. Made a huge difference in how the truck smells inside. I discovered mine were full of dirt doing 60 MPH down the freeway and a load of dirt hits me in the face. I cleaned mine the same way, through the inside and then blew what I couldn't get out by hand out the bottom.

Were you able to access it from under the truck?

Did you pour any water in there to clean it out?

I had to unbolt half of my fender well and pull it back to shove something up there to unblock the hole.

So then I could pour water in there, and properly clean it out?

If you could make sure the drain is clear first, then I don't see why not.
