Block ID Number Confusion

I've got a newly minted restoration project, 54 F100 with a severely cracked block, EBP 6015 D that will make a great boat anchor for someone :-( All the other internals are in great shape.

Found an EBP 6015 L that has been tested, bored .30 over and magnifluxed and is guaranteed....sounds like my candidate :-)

Can't seem to find anyone that can tell me if the "L" block is 100% compatible with my "D" Block parts.

Can anyone out there lend a helping hand ?

Thanks,
Mater's Old Man

Welcome to the forum! Sorry to hear about your block. Where are you getting those p/n's? 6010 is the block, I can't see anything with a 6015 number.

It's toward the bottom of the block just below the middle frost plug.

Welcome to FTE!

So you have a 223 6 cylinder? That "EBP-6015 L" is from a later '50s truck according to my Google search.

Maybe Bill "NumberDummy" will see this and give the real answer.

Yes, I have a 54 223 with a EBP 6015-D. Hopefully Bill will be able to shed some light if the "L" will be a match for the parts in my D motor.

Thanks!

6010 is the Ford basic part number for an engine block.

6015 is the Ford basic casting number for an engine block.

Casting numbers are foundry marks, cannot be cross referenced to Ford part numbers.

Bill, thanks for your reply. What does the the "L" and the "D" designate ? I'm trying to determine if the good parts in my "D" block will interchange with the "L" block.

Thanking you in advance for your assistance in this matter.

Cordially,

I don't know, but if I were to venture a guess, I'd say they're design changes.

As long as it's a 223, I can't imagine that everything from the old block won't bolt up to the new. If it were a 215, not so much.

Here is the answer to the puzzler! The letter designation on the block is the Assembly Plant Code. Not sure if that is where the block is cast but but it is where it is built. My original block was a D = Dallas the one I am looking to buy is L = Long Beach. I put the link up, being the good guy that I am, so anyone that hits this wall in the future will have a reference point.http://www.f100central.com/1954-Ford-Truck.html

I'd like to see the place on the website that said the casting numbers included foundry codes. I've never heard of that before (not saying it isn't true), but I didn't see anything on that website to confirm that. All I saw was a list of data tag and vin decode info.
