cam phasers-which engines

which engines in which years had the cam phasers that have notorious reputation. I am thing of buying a 1997 to 2006 f150 and want to stay away from this problem area

2005 is when they started putting the 3 valve 5.4L VCT in the F150 platform.

2004 in the F150, 2005 in the Expedition.

Go for a 2005+ F150 that has been maintained well, and you should have little problems. Those motors need water - thin oil, 5w20, changed ON TIME, and they stay happy. Maybe the timing chain guides will go out eventually, And that is the time to rebuild the timing system.
