I have a question, how do I bypass or disable my heater? I was driving down the road yesterday with the heat on and it caught fire! After reading a bit more I found it was due to leafs building up against that heating element next to the heater core. I don't have the $$ to fix it at the moment so is there a way I can kill the heater so it don't happen again?T
Welcome to FTE! Unfortunately You are asking in the wrong forum as this one is dedicated to 335 series engines. And, the solution to your problem depends on the year of your truck.
However, if you don't turn the heater on there won't be any electricity to the resistors and therefore no fire. But on the 80-86 models you can easily pull both the blower motor and the resistor pack from under the hood and clean out the leaves. I don't know about other models though.
For general issues, like the heater, you should post in the forum for your generation of truck. There will be many people knowledgeable about that series on that forum and they will be able to help you. To get there, go to the top of the page and click on "Models". Then select the size of your truck, such as F150, and then the specific generation. That'll put you in the correct forum and you can post a question via a new thread there.
