Trailer hitch

I am going to look at a 1974 F350 Super Camper Special truck tomorrow. I spoke to current owner, and asked him if truck had a trailer hitch, and he said "nope"! I owned one of these trucks years back, and I cannot remember if a hitch from Reese or anyone else, that will fit a regular F250-F350, will work on this critter! I know the rear tank is different. Truck just has regular old step bumper that is like on millions of other trucks. Any advice would be appreciated!!! Thank's everyone! Dale

Reese / Curt still offers frame-mounted hitches that will fit.

You couldn't get a frame-mounted hitch back in the day and bumpers were optional. Zillions of buyers opted for the dock bumper because that's what was available if you wanted to tow. Otherwise, no bumper or a factory contour bumper.

After two years of patience, a Bump finally showed up in the yard with a frame-mount version. It came home with me for a mere $26.

HIO X2! I've looked for hitches and rear bumpers at PNP. All were welded to the frames and, in most cases, to each other. I finally had to get an 80s bumper without the hitch. The supports are much stronger. I'll be going after a hitch sometime soon.

As HIO said, Ford didn't offer trailer hitches for trucks. When customers came to the parts dept and asked, we sent them to U-Haul.

But you could get trailer hitches for Galaxie/LTD's, as back then, most people used full sized cars (especially station wagons) to tow travel trailers.

Other popular tow vehicles were the 'Cornbinder' (IHC) Travel-All and Chevy/GMC Suburban.

Howdy espy....I got the frame-mounted hitch for my 73 off a late 80s Bronco.

Hitches for Bumps are much more rare because of the narrower frame rail... PM me if you're heading to PnP and I'll pal it with ya.. four hands are better than two!

Narrow frame rails (33 1/2") include 1973/77 F250 4WD's (High Boys) and 1973/79 F350 Super Camper & Trailer Specials.
