Hi all, I have a 92 f250 with a 351w EFI. I was having trouble starting it and ended up geting an auto elec to look at it. He said my problem was the Idler Motor but new nothing about them, so he bypassed it to get me mobile again. Now the truck has no guts down low and has lost its pulling power and at 100kph if you back off the gas it backfires like my mother in law on beens. Can anyone please shed some light on idler motors, can they be bypassed successfuly, can you check them or are they throw away items etc etc. Any help is greatly apprectiated.
Thanks
Murry
I've never heard of an "Idler Motor". Maybe he was referring to the Idle Actuator Control.
Anyway, pull the codes and write another post. If you don't know how, buy a Chilton or Haynes (everybody here likes Haynes) from your local auto parts store, read up on your truck and pull the codes.
Regards, Robert.
Edit: You can use a wire jumper, the Innova LED from WalMart, or the Innova digital with extension cable from codereader.com (about $70 and the best of the lot).
Thanks guys for replying to me. Im having a bit of trouble finding a manual for my truck they are not as comon here in Australia. I've asked the local machanic and hes not to sure either I'm in a small country town which dosnt help me.
I have not got a clue where to find the bits I need for pulling the codes IE:sti, dlc, eec, and so on. But after reading the info on this site it dosnt seem to hard once you've got the right points.
Im a bit behind the 8 ball as this is also my first truck and have only had it for 3 months.
The unit itself is about the size of a coil and sits above the engine on the left hand side (looking at the engine).
Ill keep trying on the manual and just put up with it untill I get some more info.
How about this; I've got a codereader, a manual, and lot's of parts. You fly me and all the parts to Australia (could I stay for, like, six months?!) and I'll fix the truck for free!
Already packing, just give me the flight number, Robert.

Until Robert arrives, just use the Chilton's online and the pics in my signature link. The ones in the GP Pics album have labels of most of the parts shown. If you want, I'll mail you a Haynes manual (PN 36058), but see if you can order it online from somewhere. It should only cost ~US$12 plus shipping.
I was just about to pop you're ticket in the mail Robert when I thought I would take a quick look at steves info and Im sorry to say that I might be able to figure something out, so youre ticket is on hold for a bit. The info you have put me onto steve and your picks are absolutly fantastic I cant guess how long it took you to do them but they were well worth the time from my point of view. I will spend some time now and nut this out.
Thanks again
Murry
