Question Normal to backfire thru carb when engine is cold ?

Hello FTE I drive a 1979 F150 Ranger 4x4 Short-Bed Automatic 400 4bbl that will backfire through the carb if I don't warm it up long enough (3-5 min). Is this normal ????

Any backfiring is abnormal.

Check your vacuum lines' condition - cracks, splits, disconnected, etc. Then check the timing.

Also Check your choke for proper operation it may not be closing and slowly opening when warmed up.
Cheers
