I'm posting this in the Dentside forum because most of you already have Duraspark ignition. I upgraded my '70 F250 to Duraspark over the weekend. The distributor has been rebuilt and recurved by Faron Rhoads. I'm running a junkyard BWD Select ignition module. I want to purchase a new module and keep the junkyard unit as a spare. Is it worth the extra money to buy the Motorcraft ignition module? My O'reily's can order them. They are twice the price of all the other brands but I know some of those other brands are junk. I've heard BWD Select & Standard's premium line are good but I don't mind paying the extra for the best.
I also have a master pro brand coil, made in china, just because I wasn't sure which direction I was going with the coil. Since I have it installed and running I'll just stick with the Duraspark type coil. What brand factory coils do you guys run? It seems that Motorcraft doesn't make one for the Duraspark.
So far I'm impressed with the Duraspark set up and Faron's recurve.
There are alot of folks who will say yes go with the motorcraft, but I look at the warranty. If I can buy a cheapy with a lifetime warranty, then that is what I will do. There are some exceptions, but very few, especially if it is easy to get to.
The life time warranty only comes in handy once you get a ride to the parts store to get another one, while your truck is broke down along the side of the road.....
Good call on carrying a spare, but since they are that cheap better get another spare to carry in the glove box.

DuraSpark ignition modules identified by a colored plastic insert located above where the wires feed out.
Most auto parts store ignition modules are made in China CRAP! If they last more than a year, consider yourself fortunate.
Rich: You took the above info from one of my posts, but you omitted two other modules. One has a red plastic insert, the other has a yellow or brown plastic insert.
Red module is D7AZ-12A199-A used in some 1977/79 sold new in CA vehicles ONLY. It was also a turd from day one!
D9AZ-12A199-C (replaced D8AZ-12A199-A). One of these modules is yellow .. one is brown .. Since the part number was replaced, I cannot recall which module was which color.
These modules were used in 1978/79 302 & 351M/W vehicles sold in high altitudes only. 351W: Passenger Cars & Econolines only.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1U2Z-12A199-AA (replaced D6AZ-12A199-B - D7AZ-12A199-B - D8VZ-12A199-A - D9VZ-12A199-A) .. Ignition Module - blue insert (Motorcraft DY-893) / Available from Ford.
I copy and pasted exactily what you put from some time ago...updating my info thread accordingly, after deleting your opinion on said parts. Thanks again for the updated info.
I'm going to purchase a blue strain relief Motorcraft DY-893. I'd like to purchase it locally so I can walk into a store and hand it to someone if there is a problem. I can buy it at three places, independant store, O'reily's or the Ford dealer. Motorcraft at one place should be the same at another, right? I just want to make sure it's not like Wal-Mart where they have cheaper stuff made for them.
What about stock coils, any brand loyalty? Unfortunately Motorcraft doesn't offer one.
Careful of these "lifetime warranties". Some will only replace the item once, some you need to show your receipt which is printed in disappearing ink.
As mentioned Motorcraft is the way to go. I keep a spare in my vehicles, just in case.
