Low pressure stop light switch

Last week when I put on my new master cylinder I put on one of those low pressure brake light switches. Your brakes come on faster with just a tap of your brake pedal.

Shortly after my truck came from the body shop after I got her fixed up and painted in 1999, my son and I were driving somewhere. He was around 7 at the time. I told him my biggest fear was someone rear ending me because he didn't see my brake lights soon enough. My son said , "Gee, Dad, I always thought your biggest fear was drowning." I am not a swimmer....

Anyways, I recommend this switch. I got mine from Mid-Fifty.

I would recommend that too. I did buy the same low pressure switch from Mid-Fifty but mine quit working after about a year and a half. Instead of trying another one I found another model with an adjustable mechanical arm that you adjust to just light up the brake lights with just a touch of the pedal. I had to make a little bracket to mount it. But it works very well. Either way is good. No matter which way you do it, every so often check to make sure those brake lights are working properly!

LED bulbs will also shave illumination time off, almost as much as typical human reaction time.

Hi Fladoodle, I'll see if I can get a couple of shots for you. I got the truck in storage for winter, about a half hour from where I live. But I'm planning on being in that area later this week so I'll try to get a picture. I bet you can think of an even better way to mount one of these. And when you do, I would like to see how you did it.

I appreciate your faith in my fabricating skills! I was just interested in this idea since it takes the hydraulic switch, and all of the inherent issues, out of the equation.

I find in my life experiance those hydraulic switches are prone to crap out.
Its either they last for a month or forever. I found that there are two
kinds one tee'd into the master cyl (very low pressure) and one tee'd off
the booter (higher pressure). I recomend this Chev/Gmc switch with a
lever arm that touches the brake pedal =its instant on instant off. I'm no
GM guy but I just tell Napa 47 Chev truck brake switch. Then two little
drill holes on the floor board two little self tappers done= done forever...

I used a Harley brake light switch, in both of my '40 Fords. They are a "low pressure" switch, and can be purchased at your local Harley dealer for around $20.
