Hello
I'm in the process of replacing pushrods and lifters and cleaning/painting my intake manifold etc. Before I put it all back together, I need some help determining what purpose these (emissions?) parts are and do I need them. Can I delete this stuff and would it improve or hurt performance? Thanks!
Are you required to get a smog check bi-annually or at the sale of the truck? On my 72 F-250 I stripped everything off and installed an after-market intake manifold. Much easier to diagnose a problem and it performs better. But, I am in northern Cali and my truck is old enough that it doesn't require any inspections.
In parts of NV, 68 and newer are smogged for full service tags. No real inspection as long as it can pass the sniffer. For a mileage limited 'classic' tag you don't have to smog.

BC is outright eliminating its emissions program (two more months, woo!) because it's both crazy expensive to operate and we have too many new cars. Anything older than fifteen years is very rare to see on the road.
Thanks guys. I don't have to get a smog check in California for this truck. I just didn't know if it would hurt or help performance if I got rid of it. I'll pull that stuff off and cap it and see how it runs. Thanks for the help!
One more comment: You might not need it, but someone else does. I took mine off my '66 in an attempt to isolate a problem and it ran the same. I plugged the "air" holes in the heads with brass plugs. I got lucky - I found a guy who had to have a complete, correct '66 Thermactor system for his 352 Ranger resto and I was apparently the only guy in the world who had one. Please don't throw it away. Take pictures, clean it up and maybe a handsome sum of money will come your way eventually, as it did to me.
