Exclamation Help Me Please!

I have a 2006 F150 Supercrew 2wd. The truck has 129,000 miles on it with the 5.4 3v. The plugs were changed 28,000 miles ago by the dealer I purchased the truck from, and I have since added a K&N intake and a Banks single outlet Monster Exhaust.

The truck is my daily driver, and has a lot of power, but I am starting to have problems. Since I installed the K&N intake and monster exhaust, I have started to have a hesitation/lost of power when I tramp the gas peddle to speed up for passing, or getting up to speed for entering the interstate.

The hesitation comes on as the RPM's increase, and kind of starts and stops until it drops down in to the normal RPM range. It almost seems like the motor is cutting out when it is in the higher RPM's.

I have been told that the truck would not need to have its computer reprogrammed for the intake and exhaust, but am starting to wonder if either I am getting to much air into the engine and the computer doesn't know what to do, or maybe I am having a spark plug issue.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, because I know a dealer diagnosis will not be cheap. Thanks

I have a hand held code scanner , that allows me to monitor the fuel and spark trims while driving.

They are not that expensive, I believe mine was under a hundred dollars.

By your description, I would be looking for coil boots to be cracked and spark jumping.
I presume you don't have a check engine light on .

You are right, I have no check engine light on. I hadn't given much thought to a spark plug boot. I will have to look into a scanner like you were talking about. Thanks.

Clean the MAF the oil from your new air filter will coat the sensor with oil and cause the engine to run lean

The Problem is fixed

I want to thank everyone for helping me figure out this issue. The garage put the truck on the computer, but since I didn't take it to Ford, they couldn't monitor the spark on each coil individually. After finding out that the computer was confirming that the truck was misfiring (14 times during the scan), I decided to change the Ignition Coils.

I went on ebay and found a company out of Michigan that builds testing equipment for the auto industry. They had ordered a bunch of the OEM Motorcraft DG511 coils for testing that they never used. I purchased an entire set of eight for $149.99 plus $10.99 shipping.

Put on the new coils, and the truck is running the best it has since I bought it a year ago...I was so happy I decided to add a new set of rims, which I ended up scraping one on the third day I had them, but the scrape wasn't too bad.

Thanks again for all of the help.
