Introducing my new-to-me 1986 F150, 302, 4-speed manual overdrive, standard cab, long bed, 2x4, 122k miles. The body is very straight, even the bed. I'm the third owner. The previous owner bought it when it was just a few years old. He was a mechanic (which explains the grease in the interior) and it's mostly been sitting since he retired 10 years ago.
It runs strong but has a few problems like a really strong exhaust smell, rough idle/high idle, cracked firewall at the clutch, muffler back exhaust pipe that's more of a sieve than a pipe, etc. I have some work to do, but I'm excited to have it. I've been too long without a pickup. At fifty years old, I finally realized I'm not a car guy...
Nice truck! Looks to be original, which is a good starting place. Gary Lewis, a noted forum member, often refers to the steps taken in making your truck better as "peeling the onion", since one event leads to another.
Too true... It seems we either have the time or the money, but rarely both. Lately we have time.
Been there once or twice. Mostly for rodeos with my mom. No active duty Army bases nearby, so I'm too far away to be much physical help. But I'm always ready to offer suggestions.
