i am almost sure i have a 4/27 rearend. what is the best way to change the ratio so i can get on the interstate. i live in a large metro area and it s**ks tring it get on the other side of town for a cruise in using only back roads.
Since you are looking at new tires you could try to get the tallest you can that will help a little or you can change the ratio which isn't that hard but a little expensive but wouldn't a 3.54 be nice?
Meanwhile, I think you have a Dana 44 rear axle. It's fairly common, so you should be able to find an entire differential, with gears, and trac-loc, that can be swapped in.
Do not use the gears from many front dana 44's. They have reverse cut gears. If you installed them reverse would be your only gear to go forward. You might have to check on the trac-loc carriers since later they used 30 spline while yours are 19 spline.
