OK, so go get a portable air compessor for your truck.
Air those tires up to about 100 lbs or till they are only kissing the tarmac at the tread centers.
Now, go down to the local marina and have the whole thing shrink wrapped bumper to bumper, with a couple of clear sections to see out.
Leave the rear window open and the tail gate down when they wrap it,
so you can get in and out that way!
Now your ready to roll out those 1000 miles.
You should at least at least 3 more MPG!
Also, the next time you go out in the sand,
you'll be able to air down.
And you won't have to get out and push!
13mpg with that truck setup is pretty darn good. I say live with it and be happy gas isn't $5 a gallon. My '04 is stock except tires and wheels and only gets 1mpg better,
