1954 F-100 (R)
3/16 steel doesn't twist quite so easily. Very poor design where the load sits in the heads of the bolts
I didn't get a picture of the engine! Forgot what it was. Here are some other photos of this clean truck on air ride.
here we are. I cut out and ground all the old suspension parts out this past couple of weekends. Trailered it over to my work for the IFS to get welded up. I was busy working and wanting to make sure I was able to finish today so I didn't take detailed pics, but here are a few.
It went in really smooth and was able to measure, check angles, remeasure and check the angles again. I'm happy with the unit from CPP and how easy it all went in. I'll work on grinding down the rest of the welds, painting up the frame and then plumbing and rewiring the truck all back up!
A lot more fab work to do, but the crossmember is in and the rest should (but not likely) smooth sailing. Feel free to ask any questions
Should get my front wheels in this week as well.
The front end (actually either end) is not something to put together poorly. A lot is riding on that work, your life. Make it right.

I also wondered, but didn't comment about it before, why you didn't fully weld the frame boxing plates in at least the areas that would be covered by the crossmember before installing the crossmember, yeah it's a small area compared to the amount of weld length going in but just a thought.
Not trying to come down on your build just things to consider.
Awesome truck and nice build diary - it was a pleasure to read!
Looks like CPP stuffed up your brake order as well, they dont look like D52 drilled and slotted rotors to me!
Keep going!
Cheers,

Its been a while again FTE.
In short,I finished up the suspension in August, it was tough to figure out, and rode around for a bit on it. It handles great. I recently bought a four link and rear discs to go along with it. I installed a new column as well with shafts.
New intake, valve covers, headers, quick fuel 600 cfm carb, power steering. A lot of work! I also painted the inner fenders to match the firewall.
I had some engine trouble while driving this piece around. It seems i had some valves stuck open and the piston graciously closed it for me. Also some uneven wear in the crankshaft end caps. The copper is already showing unfortunately. I had a bad misfire and upon diagnosis, three bad cylinders without compression.
I pulled the block and transmission out, and am just going to take the engine to a shop to get it fixed.
While I took the engine out, I was disappointed in the way the frame looked and some of the bad welds I did. Since i welded in the suspension, I have had at least 3 or four hours a week of practice TIG and MIG welding at work in my free time.
I ground down the frame welds and then rewarded some of the areas around the upper spring mounts and boxing plates. One was for aesthetics, the other reason was just for safety and integrity of the welds.
I feel much more confident in my fabrication now that I have learned a lot, mainly through mistakes at work, but I am ready to tackle some metal work soon. I plan on taking the cab off to plug up some holes. I also want to make a new steering shaft support bracket. I made a simple right angle, but Id like to make a new one that will hold the bearing closer to the u-joint.
Stay tuned for the firewall work hopefully this weekend.
Happy Building everyone!

American racing 18" with pirelli 245 50 18 cinturo p7 tires
Frame sitting on ground
Steering shafts clearing the headers. Don't worry, i put a shaft support and the joints don't bind. I also drilled a hole in each shaft where the set screw was to prevent it from sliding out
Matching intake, carb, headers and covers.
Front looks great all lowered and the wheels tucked under the fender. Hoping to get the rear there soon enough.
Painted inner fenders and welded up the holes. Lots of metal work, but it looks great
Four link from TCI, order placed through MidFifty to avoid the California internet tax.
Engine was out and i decided to rework the frame, fix bad welds, and smooth everything out.
Engine out and being inspected. Looks like a valve stuck open and got shut back. I called the shop today and hopefully get it there monday. I have a week off of class so I'll be getting the engine to the shop soon.
