Ok guys, I know this topic has been bled dry on more than one occasion but bare with me for a sec here. I got a 1992 ford f 350 dually that I REALLY want to convert to a 4 WD 4x4. I plan on finding a doaner truck that rolled or something and just take all the 4x4 components off of it and use them on mine but does anyone know of any problems or tricks I should know about before I start this project??
For example, mechanical parts are mechanical parts and will work when installed right but will I need to get a diffrent computer for this conversion? Keep in mind I don't believe in automatic locking hubs so I'll be using a set of Warn mechanicals.
I am doing this right now. Some of the Information I recieved was not right. It is different and time consuming. I am doing this in 2 stages. transmission and transfer case (adding a Overdrive from US gear). It is a standard transmission.
Mine is an automatic but I was going to see how bad it would be to convert to a standard along with the transfer case...
I might be pushing my luck...lol
It's pretty straight forward, gut the suspension in the front of your truck. Mount the leaf spring brackets, leaf springs, mount the D60 axle, track bar if it has one (not sure), mount the steering, change the tailshaft on the transmission, move the crossmember back and bolt it up to the BW 13-56 transfer case, connect the driveshaft and away you go. Thats the basics. You'll need a new driveshaft too.
