Update
My son is a sheet metal fabricator
and he had never attempted a patch panel job before, nor rust removal for that matter. Here is the story in pictures. The patch panels weren't quite right and required quite a bit of "massaging" to make them fit. Notice he also bead rolled all the edges so the new steel would fit right in flush with the original sheet metal. Suffice to say, he did a great job. I have now etch primed, and chassis blacked it underneath. She's ready for Department of Transport inspection now, rust free! Many thanks to my son for his wonderful work here, lucky he's a car guy too!
The hits keep coming on the truck though, when we went to put the fuel tank back in (after welding) we shook it a bit and about 68 years of Arizona dust had turned to mud.....so we need to dip it and clean it now. Don't want to fill up the new filter and pump with sediment.
Then after changing the intake manifold to a dual Offy, I had forgotten about the vacuum wipers.......so am just sourcing an electric vac pump (off F250) to put in. We cant get vehicles registered in Australia without all parts working.
I also noted that when I had the radiator recored and restored they polished through the seam on one bit of the brass top tank, so I need to braze that up as well.
Just the usual trials and tribulations.....luckily we are all mad enough to love doing it!
