I have a friend that bought the attachable chip to his 97 ford PS and i fell in love with the horsepower increase and how it ran like a scalded ape but after only 6 or 7 mnths it got hot on him and he had to replace the (PCM)?? My question is this i have 297,000 miles on a 97 f250 PS diesel and would like to put this horsepower under my hood but i have heard that the programmable is the only way to go but do i have to have any special mods done to my tranny to get further life from it? Will it hurt my truck in anyway?Other than my pocketbook from my highway mileage-which i do not tow anything-just use it for the amount of miles i can get out of it! This truck really is my pride and joy and after much with wife you could say i have turned her to diesels anyways just would like to know where to start on this ? thanks guys
I would say leave your current chipset in. With nearly 300K on the clock, no sense in making mods that might or might not help. Totally your choice, but if it was me with your truck with that many miles, I'd leave her as is and keep on truckin'.
