Hi new to the forum but was wondering, if I put headers and a dual straight pipe exhaust into glass packs on my 1988 ford f-250 460efi would it effect anything in the computers or anything like that to cause it to run bad?
Welcome to the forum. You might want to rethink the straight pipe idea. Those big blocks are ungodly loud, and glass packs aren't going to quiet it down at all.
It won't sound bad man and it'll run good. I have a 25" thrush glasspack on my truck w a "free flowing" exhaust. Just don't get short glasspacks or it'll be popping everywhere and real loud. Mine is just one pipe but it sounds pretty good I think and not loud at all but I have stock manifolds. I want to run some pacesetter headers to it and she how she sounds. What headers you getting?
i strongly disagree with your statement saying they will sound like **** my best friend had a 460 efi he swaped out to a holly 650 double pump and had it stock manifolds to dual straight pipe no cat with glass packs and it sounded ungodly amazing lol. now this was his mud truck so loudness didnt really matter to us because tickets where not an issue. if we where going to put his truck on the road we would do long tube headers to an "x" pipe and dual purple horny glass packs good back pressure with a high flow rate and a sexy as **** sounding truck
To each their own I guess. I personally think that cherry bomb and purple horny glass packs sound like total crap. I prefer the sound of a flowmaster or magnaflow myself. It could also be that I associate the sound of glass packs with the d-bag that has a total pile but wants it to sound like it has power. But that's just me. Just don't hot rod it through my neighborhood at midnight! haha

Long glasspacks sound like garbage I like the sound of a short bullet muffler and true duals on a v8. If I could re do my exhaust on the truck I'd do it just like that and never look back. Long glasspacks just suck unless you are going for a really old hot rod sound.
I'm gonna put on headers, run the X-pipe before the high-flow cat, and use a dual-inlet/dual outlet high-flow cat, with the X-pipe before the high-flow cat, and then a dual-inlet/dual outlet muffler and then keep running the exhaust pipe out to in front of the rear wheels..
