I have an '89 F-150, 302, AOD & dual tanks. Yesterday when I started it up, it went thru it's normal warm-up cycle & then stalled. It does this once in awhile. This time it won't start back up. It cranks but won't start up. I remove the spark plug wire & installed a spare plug & grounded it while cranking---no spark. I also remove the coil wire, inserted the plug & cranked---no spark.
hey im having the same problem w/my 1996 e150 4.9l. sometimes it will startup and run fine but now it will not start at all. its currently at the mechanix shop and they r scratching their heads. he check for a "fire"(put in a inline spark plug cable tester but no fire). there is no module on the side of my distributer. he said he will check the coil tomorrow. any sugestions?
My problem was solved by a simple procedure with a test lamp at the -/tach terminal of the e-coil. The test lamp was bright & steady as the engine was cranking indicating a bad TFI/ICM module. I replaced the module & the truck started right up with just a bump of the ignition key.
