Now owned by me. Found a white 1996 F150 XL with the 4.9L and M5OD I couldn't pass up. Regular cab, long bed. The PS pump was leaking and the high pressure hose turns out to have be shot as well. It needs new tie rods inner and outer, shocks, wheel bearings too. Gonna replace the rotors and pads while it's apart. It has three Goodyear Wrangler tires and one off-brand so I got two new Wranglers for the front and have one nice extra for a spare.
The steering is pretty squirrelly. It was a handful driving back. The engine and transmission are solid.
I wanted something to drive to the hunting lease so I can park the Bronco out there. At least that's how I'm justifying it. Plus the Bronco really isn't made for hauling. Once you've had a pickup it's hard to not have a pickup.
Went without a real pickup for 5 years (we had a sporttrack for a three years) so I know what it is to be without a pickup.
My "new" 69 is going to be my daily driver.
Of course we would like to see pictures - probably the engine area as this is the engine forum.
Engine related, huh. Well, when I drove her home she was idling rough and the idle would occasionally stick sort of high when I came to a stop. Checked the throttle linkage and it was dirty as could be plus the cruise control cable was loose from the bracket. Cleaned and shored it all up and no more issues there.
Heard a ticking on the driver's side of the engine that I couldn't pin down. It almost sounded like a spark arcing and sped up with engine RPM. I planned to change the plugs, wires, cap and rotor anyway and afterwards the tick is gone. A couple of the plugs were loose enough they looked like there might be some blow by. Whatever it was ticking it's gone.
Also found and fixed three vacuum leaks plus filled the tank with premium unleaded along with my proprietary mixture of Techron, 3M fuel injector cleaner, and Berryman's B12 Chemtool.
It purrs at idle and pulls smooth all around now. For all its complexity, fuel injection is a beautiful thing when it's right.
You got yourself a nice rig, the MAF 6's are not too common anymore.
I'm fighting a rough low idle/high idle now on my buddies, unfortunately it seems like its going to be deeper than just cleaning some cables. It does help to have OBDII and a friend with an old ford dealership computer.
