Any one running a 360? I want to buy a truck with one (see previous thread) any stories or info would help.
I have only dealt with 352's and 390's before.
I got one I got one
Umm im not sure i have a story but, it came with the truck and it hasnt failed me yet (approx 8months so far)
Its mostly all stock. And I do beat it, im not very nice.
Its burned oil for a bit, not anymore though.doesbnt smoke.
Has started makin noise, but is still ridin hard.
Everyone has told me the FEs are strong viscous little buggers. I like em as well.
Have fun man.
360 is a pretty tough motor, I ran the living crap outta my 360 in my highschool truck, total blatant disregard for drivetrain components well being. I beat that 360 so hard sometimes and all it would do is run better? I used to shift gears when the motor ran out umph, if I got stuck or close to it which happened lots I'd put her to the metal and not let up till I'm out or when the valves started floating, I treated it like it was indestructible basically. Still runs but it has a hard time getting enough oil pressure to turn over the first time it fires. My other 360 gots a lucky blow on the intake gasket(no oil or coolant leak), a dead piston, ticking lifters, worn valve guides/seats, a burnt valve, rod and main knock, and I swear one of the head gaskets is blown in a convenient place, but it still can haul a huge load of wood and survive 5000+rpm bursts. Good motor the 360, but I find the 390's rods last longer. You could only kill one if you woke up in the morning with that goal in mind.
Thanks for the info, sounds like the stories I have about 390's we flogged the crap out of my brothers 1968 F250 390 4-speed we think it had 4.11 gears at least used to take off in second gear unless we were feeling feisty which was often, one day on the way home from school my bro was driving and he saw some girls riding there bikes home so he tach's it up to about 6 grand lets it out in second gear this big *** camper special is going side ways howlin through full lenght headers and straight through mufflers, needless to say the girls baled off there bikes into someones yard.
he finally killed it dropin it into 3rd gear at 75 on the highway passing someone.
Like I said in my other thread I believe in the FE just had no experience with the 360.
