What's the easiest/most definitive way to tell if a truck has the factory trailer wiring? Going to the salvage yard to get some items, and I want to be able to quickly tell which trucks have it and which have aftermarket wiring.
I think it's 92+ trucks, maybe only the f250/350s, and if you look under dash to the left of the ashtray, there will be a square grey plug. That's factory electric brake harness.
Otherwise, the tail light harness for brakes and running lights, is an inline piece that plugs into the factory harness at the rear bumper.
I'm not positive, but the '92 - '96 and '97 HD trucks should have a 7 pin plug at the rear of the frame and extra relays/fuses under the hood in the distribution block if they have the towing package.
I think the fuses are 4, 18, 21 under the hood in the distribution box and four relays in that same box. At least on mine, a '97 F250HD
I think all trucks of this year range have the gray plug to the right of the steering column, near the ashtray so that may not be a good indicator.
I can take pictures of my truck in the morning, if that will help.
