When my truck is being driven there is a pretty decent oil leak from the passenger side of the engine block when I park. Then it wont leak much after a while of being parked. Im going to dig in and check it out tomorrow. Any suggestions on what to look for or any info on why it leaks so bad after being driven and then settles down. Thanks ahead of time.
First likely culprit for the leak is plugged drain holes in the heads. Pull the valve covers to check the holes and the condition of the valve cover gaskets. The holes are in the front and rear of the heads, but the engine tilts to the rear, so the ones in the rear of the engine are likely plugged. The holes are about the size of a dime, and you may need to clean out accumulated material.
If the oil is leaking down the sides of the heads, around the spark plugs so to speak, then this is the most likely situation.
Second culprit is the intake manifold. This is a common problem on the FE series of engines, and is considerably more work than the valve covers. Generally, a leak here has the oil seeping down the back or front sides of the heads, and often simulates a leaking rear main seal.
I would check the drain holes and valve cover gaskets first.
Hope this helps.
Also make sure the valve cover holes are flat and level with the rest of the flange. I'd bet that they are lower when looked at from the side from torquing them down to stop a previous leak. When putting my covers back on all 5 holes where depressed relative to the rest of the flange.
