My Baby is in the body shop for repairs after a mishap this last weekend. (see my gallery for a pic.)
The shop calls today and tells me that it will take a few extra days to fix because there are only 3 q-panels in existence available to fit my ride.
Is this really possible or is this guy full of baloney?
My insurance agent tells me that if they cant find the part they may have to total my Bronco!
I recently had exp. with insurance company on a '79. The body shop wanted to replace body parts with aftermarket parts ($5300.00 est. repair) and I refused. I insisted on OEM parts for replacement or an exact replacement of the truck.
The insurance company ended up totaling the truck and giving me avg retail value. I bought it back for salvage value, which was less than 10% avg. value.
Not sure about the '96 parts availability, but you have to watch out for less than acceptable aftermarket body parts.
I would call other body shops and check - I found one in my area that helped me by talking about how to deal with ins. company. . . . Good Luck!
Guys we are talking about a '96! Every 92-96 Bronc and F-150 AND 92-98 F-250/350 have the same body panels up to the doors. The rear quarters no longer made? Ok, maybe but I find it difficult to believe. What other body panels are there? I mean worst case scenario, you can probably find a nearly perfect boneyard panel from another full size truck.
Glad you got OEM parts; it makes a difference. My father-in-law had a nightmare with aftermarket rear doors for his '91 E150 (which became mine) not fitting properly. They tried three sets before they took his advice and purchased some Ford doors.
