Stormfinder's Super Slow Build Thread

Hello everyone, i'm Jake, This will be the location of my Build thread for my 2000 Ford Excursion XLT.

I have completely built trucks and cars before, most notably a complete frame off restoration and cummins conversion to a 1990/1995 ford bronco.
Link to prior work
(Stormfinder's Diesel 4BTA Bronco Builds - FSB Forums)

The Specs and plans for of the truck at Purchase are as follows:

205631 Miles, 2 Previous Owners,
Seneca Police Department (until 205312 Miles)
Private Party (until 205631 Miles)
5.4L SOHC V8 SFI (swap to 6 cyl Cummins)
4R100 4 Speed Automatic (rebuild for Cummins torque)
New Process Transfer case
Dana 50 Front Axle 4.10:1 (plan on dana 60 w/ full float upgrade)
Ford Sterling 10.5 Rear Axle 4.10:1 Limited Slip
BF Good rich all terrains (yuk) 265/75-16 (plan on 275/65-20 MT-Rs)

All Black Exterior
Stock Lights Front and rear (will be converting to 80w and 50w Cree LEDs where available, and 75w Hids in FX-R Projectors)
Trail Ready Front and rear Bumpers.
(Warn M12000 to be Installed)
Stock Grille
(Mesh or 2005 style Black grille to be installed)
Stock Mirrors
(Power fold, telescoping, signal and heated mirrors to go in their place, once source)
??2008 swap?? (possible future possibility)

Pretty Basic/bare interior,
AM/Fm Radio only (7" Android radio Going in),
mechanical odometer
No Compass/thermometer (any way to add this?)
Mechanical HVAC Control (anyway to retrofit EATC?)
Converting all interior lights to LED (14w Cree for festoons, 25w cree for Wedge base, 5smd for dash, visor mirrors, and switch panels)
??08 interior swap?? (possible future possibility)

This will be updated with time.

thoughts or advice anyone?

The temp/ compass is very easy to add I just did it. The harness was there BUT it was the truck connector so I had to use the connector from the parts truck. Also I had to move one wire in the right kick panel to get the temp to work. All in all super easy compared to the rest of my project. EATC is in the back of my mind but I don't have parts yet.

Do you have any pictures? By truck connector, do you mean the trucks and excursions had different plugs? If so I can try to find one out of an excursion. Which kick panel wire?

I appreciate the replies so far.

Plans look good. For your engine and since you plan on a Diesel conversion the 4.10 gears are likely going to be more effective than a tuner or engine mods.

I would recommend swapping to 02-04 headlight housings. They are noticeably brighter than the 99-01 style.

Bently,

I was actually thinking of going with some '05-07' style Harley housings, which i will open up, and install a set of FX-R 3" Projectors in to. These will be powered by a 75w Hid system at 4300K. The front Parking/turn lights will be a set of 80W CREE XB-D Leds. Assuring i can see, and be seen.

The projectors are actually quite amazing at the light output they provide, while also virtually eliminating glare to other drivers.

the thought is a light to look similar to this

The SCT tuner was an amazing addition, and was done at the same time as the Y-pipe. The 2 together are a great little wake-up for the truck and there is no way I would have my X without them.

Don't bother with this one. You'll be in for somewhere between $600 to $1000 and thats with no guarantee it will work and sourcing the parts is a PITA.

Alrighty then, Ill remove that from my thought process (didnt really need to do it anyway, as it wouldve made it harder to convert all interior switches, and dials tto red lighting.

Does anyone know if the Instrument cluster has green paint on the back, or an actual separate green layer behind the face?
