Thumbs up Driveshaft Clunk

My driveshaft clunk is gone thanks to the advance provided by the members of FTE. Spent Sunday under my 1999 Ranger 4X4 ext cab off road series truck removing the driveshaft, following the instruction provided by the mediator Ken and confirmed by lone-ranger and the clunk is gone. It was -25 in Burlington while doing this repair and the rubber yoke cover was very stiff. Took the entire driveshaft with yoke to the basement waiting for the cover to warm up before greasing. I did notice one tooth inside the yoke seem to be cut back about a third of the way... is this normal? While the clunk is completely gone... is it still recommended to install the 4" aluminum driveshaft or would you continue to use the 3.5"?

Glad to have found FTE... Mike.

I wouldn't worry about one tooth being cut back. If it's only one, it shouldn't be a problem unless thee was a lot of metal in there when you took it apart. I can't remember for sure, but it may be a master spline you are looking at. The master makes sure the two shafts are always aligned the same.

Ford no longer replacing with Aluminum

From what I read on another website Ford is no longer replacing the driveshaft. TSB has come out with some adaption parts to place zerk fitting on the yoke in a manner that grease can be applied. I have not had a problem on my truck and this news came from a gent who went in for a 'shaft replacement' and got fitted instead.
