Ok guys I'm not to sure what is going on. I have a 01 350 7.3.
And I have a scan gauge connected to it. My scan gauge reads -40 on the water temp but my dash gauge shows normal. I know that the dash is just a dummy gauge but this has me puzzled. Could this be a possible sensor issue? Please any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,Chris
The first thing to do would be to make sure you're using the right codes if you mess up one digit in the programing of an x gauge you could get a whacky reading or just may not work at all did it work before and just Start acting up or did you just get it and hook it up
#1 is, the water temp gauge on the dash is an actual working gauge, it does read the range of temp, it's not like the oil pressure gauge that is just reading on or off.
#2 is, there are two temp sensors, which one are you seeing on the scan tool?
I'm not sure which one it is reading. Is there a way to tell? It only says water/coolent temp. I was not aware that there are two sensors. Can you clarify?
Here's the catch, and why I don't think scanguage advertises the code: The signal changes resolution part way through the warm-up and the math can't be triggered to change with it. It's really simple tho, below 127F it reads 2x the temperature, so as the vehicle warms up the reading is double until it reaches 127F. I.e., during w/u the gauge will read up to 254, then when crosses 254 it will switch to actual temp and drop to reading to the "actual" 127F, after which it remains accurate.
I punched this one in this morning, and verified it works on my xgauge.
