I have a 69 F100 with a 360 and I'm considering refurbishing it to use as tow vehicle. I'm considering a fairly large boat, say 4000-6,000 lbs. Does this truck have what it takes to pull 6,000 lbs out of the water or should I invest my money elsewhere? I don't want to sink a lot of money in this only to find it won't pull the boat out of the water.
The 360 will have the power to pull it no problem. but the 1/2 ton suspension/frame might be a burden. A f250 would be a better way to go but with some suspension mods in the f100 it should do alright.
It'll pull it fine but will it stop. An F250 has bigger brakes, suspension and a larger rear end. On some slippery ramps positraction comes in very handy. For many years I pulled a 5000 lb boat with my '68 CS with a cabover camper with no problem. I did build a good 390 for it. Total weight was 15000 lbs on a scale. I did have trailer brakes.

IMHO The F100 should pull your boat just fine. I don't know why you would need a F250 to tow with as you are not hauling it. My 66 F100 has had a power disc brake upgrade. I weighed it at a local feed store because I was so surprised how well it handled this big load. As shown 10,520 lbs total weight.
