bad fuel pump ?

i have the fuel transfer problem, rear tank to front. i decided to just run off the front tank. today my engine died, switch to the rear tank and it ran fine, switch back to the front and died. ran a pressure test and when i switch to the front the pressure starts droping. i can hear the pump running when i first turn the key on, but it does sound different than the back one. i figured that i need to replace it anyways because of the bad valve. screwy thing is, when i started running on the front tank, 2 weeks ago, my engine started right up. when id be on the back id have to crank it a bit. ive bought both pumps and will be relacing them. my question is, is it the pump, and why did it start up so good on the front pump, seeing as thats the bad one. thanks in advance.

I don't mean to insult you at all, but do you have gas in the front tank? When I drained my leaking rear tank by jumping the relay, pump made a much different sound when the tank hit empty.

that would be to easy. but when i was under it changing the filter i tapped on the tank, couldnt really tell anything ffrom that, so i dumped in 4 gallons of gas and the guage went up from little under 1/2 to almost 3/4. guess ill have to figure where to slice into the electric line to check the voltage next time it does it, make sure im not loosing any voltage.
