2010 Torque Converter Problem Again

Last December the torque converter was replaced under warranty and now it needs it again!
I spoke with the mechanic who replaced it last time and he told me Ford uses "Re-manufactured" parts when they do this.
Now I am worried as the warranty will run out in November.
Guess next time I'll pay a shop to install a new one.

Sorry to hear that...I must ask however...what are you towing with the truck?

About 8 0r 10 times a year I tow my 18' aluminum boat. Boat motor and trailer probably weigh about 15 to 1600 pounds. I do not carry any heavy loads in the bed.
I have about 6ooo miles since the present torque converter was installed.

A re-manufactured part can be better than a new part. It should have been rebuilt with the latest parts and technology available at the time. Also Ford has a 3 year unlimited mileage warranty on it's re-manufactured parts. You should be covered.

i've noticed on my 2010 that during a downshift it takes nearly 3 seconds for the torque converter to lock after it downshifts.

i think until you address the shift strategy this problem is likely to plague you for the rest of your days.

i can post a video if you want, but that amount of time slipping the converter clutch is bound to do bad things.....

On Oct 3 had the transmission mechanic for the dealership ride with me and he felt the torque converter act up. When we got back to the dealership and we both spoke to the service rep. I was told a replacement would be ordered and should arrive by Tuesday the 7th. Before I left I double check to see that they had my correct phone number, did not so I watched him change it on his computer and enter my email address. On Wednesday i called the service rep and left a message. On Thursday I finally get to talk to him. Say the part is not in yet will call me on Friday. Did not hear from him. How long does it take Ford to ship a torque converter?? What if my truck was undriveable?? Would they give me a loaner?? Not happy with the service I am getting...

Sorry to hear you're not getting the service you expect from your dealer. I'd suggest giving Ford Customer Service a call:

(800) 392-3673

They authorized a rental when my dealer didn't have a loaner available, so they should be able to help out.

My second point was that your replacement part is covered under Ford's 2-year, unlimited mileage warranty. So you have a warranted part long after your factory warranty expires.

Tom you had an EcoBoost. I have been thinking of moving up to one. What did you lik about and what did you not like about it?

I really liked the power above everything else. This thing would spin the rear tires with 12,000 lbs behind it, and it was fastest up the hill at the OH meet with 16,000 lbs behind it.

The transmission was great for towing, and I really liked the manual mode for holding gears on the highway. Most other manufacturers "manual" mode only limits the top gear and will still kick down when you put your foot into it. The F150's transmission allows you to put the pedal on the floor and apply full power in any gear you like.

Wasn't really blown away with the fuel economy, but I knew that going in. With the max tow package I could get 19-20 MPG on the highway if I stayed at 65 MPH. If you get a truck with 3.31 or 3.55 gears you should do better though.

Overall I really liked the truck. A few months ago another moderator called me up and asked me if I got rid of it because of the rear axle trouble. Not at all I told him, it was a freak thing and I otherwise loved the truck. I got rid of it because I needed to lose the payment with my wife being a full time student again. Come next year when she graduates I will probably get another.

Do you have any news from the dealership, Engguy? What's the current mileage on your truck? I'll check out some options to help.

Thanks Crystal, I have called, text, and Emailed the Service Rep. Last Friday got hold of him and was going to call me back. Didn't happen. Finally today he answered my text & would check with parts guy and call me. No call. I happen to be in the area of the dealership after work so I went there. Face to face he tried to tell me they could not get a torque converter in almost 2 weeks. I look at him and said "Your Kidding , right?" I let him know my patients are thin. One more day & I will contact the owner of the dealership. At the present time I have 59400 miles on my truck.

I'd like to escalate this to your regional customer service manager, Engguy. To get the ball rolling, PM me your full name, best daytime phone number, VIN, current mileage, and servicing dealership. I'll do the rest.

Hi Engguy,

Just click on the "FordService" at the top left of this message and select the option to send a private message from the drop-down menu. If you're having difficulty sending a private message, you can always give our Customer Relationship Center a call at 1-800-392-3673. They can offer the same assistance that I can.
