64 auto trans question

64 auto trans question

A friend of mine has a complete auto set up out of a 64 f100 with 292 he is giving me. Does this trans need an oil cooler and what name (fmx etc.) should I use to look up info. I think I found a sweet deal fo my 64 f100 he has steering colunm and all!

Should be rhe cruise o matic mx transmission and yes it needs a cooler my radiator has the provisions for a cooler but you may have to add an aftermarket one.

1964 F100/350: FX Cruise-O-Matic aka small Cruise-O.

1965/67 F100/350 352 & 1965/72 F350 300 I-6: MX Cruise-O-Matic aka big Cruise-O.

FMX introduced in 1969 Ford/Merc Passenger Cars. Only trucks to come with it: 1973/77 F350's with 300 I-6.

The tranny was cooled through the engine block, not the radiator like later models.

What engine do you have?

If it is a 292, I would try and get everything so that you can run it just like Ford did.

Here's a pic of the original A/T cooling system. The 8289 T connector tended to rust out, so many people installed a trans cooler in front of the radiator.

1961/64 F100/350 and 1965/66 F100/250 240/300 with C4 used a different T connector (B6D-8589-A) than 1965/67 F100/250 352 with MX Cruise-O-Matic (C5TZ-8289-A)
