Rough idle at Cold Start
I know that this is a truck forum but since I couldn't find any answers in the crown vic forum I want to try and ask here.
My Crown Vic, year 2000, 116k miles, 4.6L V8 keeps giving me trouble when it gets below 40°F outside ...
When I try and start the engine when its cold it fires right up, runs fine for a couple seconds and then the rpm drop until it almost dies. I have to push the gas pedal to keep it running and the symptom gets worse the colder it gets outside. The only way around it is to plug in the engine heater ...
Here is what I have done so far:
- replaced IAC
- replaced all coils and plugs
- got an egr valve from the wreckers, cleaned it and put it in --> same issue
- cleaned MAF sensor twice and disconnected the battery for 10min
- replaced the fuel filter
- ran fuel injection cleaner through the system
I also tested for vacuum leaks as described in this thread: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/9...when-cold.html
I don't have a check engine light or any trouble codes, no issues under heavy acceleration and I currently average 23-26mpg.
I'm trying to figure this out since last fall when I bought it, but I couldn't do anything the whole summer since it runs fine when its warm outside ...
Any ideas what to do next?
