Leaf Blowers

I have a Toro electric leaf blower/vac. It quit on me, and I did fix it by bypassing the safety switch. I didn't want to do that, but there are no numbers on the switch, and a web searches didn't show it as a replacement part.

I thought about a new one, but I'm wondering just how useful they are. The vacuum function is nice, but I don't know that blowing leafs around saves me a lot. Hard to herd the little buggers into a pile, and easy to misdirect the air blast and scatter them around.

Is it just me? Perhaps some kind folks could share tips on how to efficiently use a blower.

Thanks,

hj

I have a 25 cc 2 stroke backpack blower. Not as powerful as a Stihl but it does the job. I wouldn't get an electric leaf blower for fall cleanup. They're ok for blowing grass clippings off the driveway after you cut the lawn but to clean up a lot of leaves you need a bit more power.

I usually start by blowing the leaves out of my plants, bushes and other areas that are difficult to reach. I usually work my way from one side of the yard to the other going back and forth forming a long pile of leaves with the blower. And I try to work in the direction of the wind.

When you start to get a big pile of leaves grab a rake and sweep them onto a plastic tarp. You don't have to get them all just push as many as you can onto the tarp and then continue cleaning up with the blower until you have another good pile. When the tarp is full of leaves you can fold it up and empty it in the back of your pickup for a trip to the dump or drag it to wherever you want to dispose of the leaves. Some places you can leave them by the road and the town will pick them up with a vacuum or a front end loader.

When you're finished mow the lawn to pick up any stray leaves.

when you get closer to the pile use less power and favor the pile in the direction the winds blowing,,,hand held blowers work pretty good depending on size of yard
