Rusting Oil Pan

Anyone have any problems with the oil pan rusting out? I got under there the other day to change the oil and the pan is chipping and the metal is all pitted, like is starting to rot through. Should I take my grinder with the metal brushes and lightly scuff it and paint it. Any suggestions?

Also, I am putting on a 2.5" leveling kit and I called offroadwarehouse.com to get my Bilsteins 5100 and the part #'s they gave me were BE-6245-H5 (FRONT) and BE-6246-H5 (REAR).
Will these part #'s work? BTW, the rear has 4" blocks. I called Bilstein put was unable to get a person.

Thanks,

Rusting Oil Pan

I had the same problem with my rear axle differential cover on my 99 F-250! It was flaking so badly that I bought some high temp spray paint, and now I clean and re-coat it once a year or so. You'd think for the $25k, they'd do a better paint job.

Sorry, can't help you with the shock question.

Rusting Oil Pan

YES, YES, YES

I had the exact same problem with my 94 F150 5.0. I had developed an oil leak, got under to take a look and i had not 1 but 2 holes! one on the drivers side, the other on the pass. side almost directly across from one another. I talked to a Ford dealer and it was a known issue...something about bad steel....i dunno. The pan just rotted away under the paint!

Anyhow the dealer wanted $1000.00 to replace the stupid gasket and pan!<br>:-staun

I can tell you this...if you have fuel injection you can not just unbolt the motor mounts, jack it up and go to town. You must remove the upper plenum in order to give the motor clearance when jacking it up off the mounts. Wedge a couple blocks of wood in there for safetys sake as after you drop the pan you will need to put your hands between the block and dropped pan to unbolt the oil pump and pickup tube. Let all that just drop in the pan and you should be able to pull it out, however you may have to rotate the crankshaft in order to allow the pan to slip out due to the counterweights on the crank. (or whatever they are called)

The oil pan itself was only about $120.00

Good Luck

you can pressure wash the pan then dry and scrape and wire brush then use extend 3 coats read directions then 2 coats primer and 3 coats black paint.
