I tend to agree with the OP. I have a 2005 that just turned 60,000 miles. It has broken down the last two times I drove it. I have done the coolant flush and replaced the unison ring. But, I don't think it was the unison ring to start with. With one no start issue I unplugged the ICP sensor and it started right up and ran fine for a month or two. When it is not going to start and can tell it is not running right, has no power and turbo doesn't want to spool up. And, then it will be fine again. ICP is not low when starting. No codes.
Last week it went in to limp mode pulling a trailer with a lawn mower on it. Overboost I suspect.
I have a 1981 F150 that I would trust to get me there and back if my life depended on it before I would the 6.0
I certainly don't blame anybody who doesn't want to mess with one.
