I have a '94 F150 w/302, I want to know if I change my wires to a performance brand, which brand is the best? I want a better spark and I just changed my plugs, so I thought better do this all in one shot. If I replace my wires do I need to replace my distributor? I was looking at accel and moroso.
WHAT????? I have never heard of that. Neohoff are replacement wires and I want performance wires. Popping sound through the speakers? That's got to be a myth. Why would you hear this sound? It has to be a joke.
o.k, so let me get this straight. If I run accel 8.8 mm performance spark plug wires, I'm going to hear a popping noise through my speakers? That doesn't make sense man. Where does the sound come from?
Mil1ion is right. You can get popping through the radio with some plug wires.
I don't really know anything about the physics of it, but it coincides with the RPM of the engine and is more prevelant on AM stations, but can be heard on FM. The sound comes from the spark travelling through the wire. It creates a magnetic field, which must somehow create a signal that gets into the stereo.
I would think that the Accel should be shielded. I think that is the more common term, but I have heard both. I called a performance shop and got a set of 9.2 mm universal wires for about half what a set of 8.8mm Accels were going to run. I had to trim them to size and put one end on them, but they were great. I can't remember the brand. Call around and see what you can find.
But, Mil1ion is not pulling your leg, it does happen.
The first trans-atlantic radio transmission was basically a spark gap.
One of the hams at work insulated the plug wires on his motor home using metal flex conduit. Works pretty well and is always good for a laugh.
