'91 Explorer Safety Switch
my symptoms are these:
can't get it into P.... will only go to R. (shift cable?) but, even so, I can't start it at ignition even when it's in N. i CAN however leave it in any gear and jump it via the solenoid with a screw driver. Once it's cranked, runs fine... like i said just can't get it into P

The first thing you should do is figure out the shifter problem. The NSS won't KEEP it from shifting, but if the shifter isn't working right, you can't expect the NSS to behave predictably. There's an adjustment under the truck for the cable, so get a Haynes manual or a Ford/Helm CD and find out how to set it up.
