Damn Need a TP55!

Pulled the Ex in the driveway to replace my driver's seat cover today and to my surprise saw just about the largest Torx fitting I ever saw holding the seat down. Quick bit of research showed it was a Torx "plus" 55 - a size not carried by any of my local shops. Some say a T55 works but could result in the fastener head stripping so didn't want to take the chance (would need to buy a T55 to try anyway) Fortunately found a TP55 on Ebay for just under $14. Should one this week and looks like seat cover waits until next weekend...

I was going to remove my front seats and carpet last week until a helpful member pointed out that I needed the T55, but there was no mention of any "plus".

I've never heard of a plus rating.

It's actually a different torx series for heavy duty applications. A T55 could strip the bolt if you're not careful. Size is TP55 - search on Google or Ebay and you will see what I mean...

I did search after your post and the best I can come up with is that it's a 2 piece design?

The socket may be two piece but the actual bolt is more rounded in the points of the "star" - a T55 will fit but will have excess play and could strip - a TP55 would fit snug and allow more force to remove the bolts..

Do you have to remove the entire seat to replace the seat cover? I did it a while back and didn't think I had to do all that, just the seat bottom. Maybe I'm wrong though haha.

I removed my entire interior earlier this month to sound proof the truck. I had no issues using my T handle torx set to remove everything. My T55 worked just fine for the seats. I had no issues at all with fitment or stripping. I did have to slide a screwdriver into the handle of the torx to give me a little more leverage to break the bolt loose. Just apply enough downward pressure and take your time and you should be fine.

Agreed used a snap on t55 for my whole project jus have to keep steady pressure not a fast jerking motion or impact use leverage

Not saying it can't be done but looks like it will make things a lot easier as the plastic panel on side looks like it needs to be removed as well - will post pics this weewkend

I used a T55 on an impact and everything came out without stripping. It was loose but not loose enough that I was too worried about it.
