Hello. I have a '95 Windstar with the 3.8 engine.
It has 139K miles. I have a very annoying and continuous
squeak coming from the front of the engine. It is especially
noticeable while idling. I am wondering if replacing the
sepentine belt is the answer.
If so, how much is involved in doing this? Is something
that a person of average mechanical aptitue can do? Is there
anything else to try before replacing the belt?
Sometimes a serpentine belt can jump over a tooth causing it to rub on the side of the pulley. Also check the spring loaded tentioner for maybe a bad bearing. It wouldnt hurt to change the belt, I know a pain but it has to be done
